Kathy Ruddick
Kathy is a life-long fly-fisher, starting to fish at the age of 7 in her home town of Maple Ridge, B.C. She began fly fishing and tying flies when she was 12, and became enthralled at the conquest of catching fish on her own flies at a young age.
For over 25 years, she was not only involved in the retail fly fishing industry, but also a fly fishing and fly casting instructor, and organizer for destination fly fishing trips.
Her fly fishing experience included travelling and fishing throughout BC and Canada, as well as hosting groups internationally; she has fished in Cuba, Belize, New Zealand, Australia, UK, Mexico and Iceland. She has extensive fly fishing experience in both freshwater and saltwater, targeting a variety of species including trout, salmon, steelhead, pike, lake trout, billfish, bonefish, tarpon and permit.
She has been involved with several television productions and radio media. Kathy currently sits on the Board of Directors with the British Columbia Freshwater Society, dedicated to the enhancement and promotion of the freshwater fishery of BC, as well as on the Board of Directors with Fly Fishing Canada.
Kathy has competed in several International World Fly Fishing Competitions and Canadian National Fly Fishing Competitions; notably she was the first woman to be selected on the Canadian National Team in 1997. She achieved the individual Gold Medal in the Canadian National Women’s Competition 2022 and Bronze Individual Medal in the Women’s World Fly fishing Competition in 2023. In 2023 she proudly competed with her teammates to achieve the Silver Medal for The Canadian Womens National Team during the Womens World Fly Fishing Championships.
